Stac Lee - St Kilda

Stac Lee lies near Boreray in the North East of the St Kilda archipelago, and is 165 metres high, making it one of the highest sea stacs in Britain. The stac is home to nesting sea birds including fulmars and kittiwakes, and the white lines seen on the stacs are these birds and their droppings. St Kildans took the birds for food, feathers and oil during the breeding season which lasted from about March to September. Today St Kilda is home to the largest colony of North Atlantic gannets in the world, with 60,000 birds nesting in 2004.
