Raised beaches at Coldbackie, Tongue, Sutherland

Patrick Bailey photographed this example of a raised beach landscape near the village of Coldbackie on the side of Tongue Bay, an inlet on the north coast of Sutherland. Created as a result of sea-level change following the melting of ice at the end of the last Ice Age, the former beach forms a marine platform that stands above the present sea-level and is fronted by a cliff and a wave-cut platform.
