The 30th International Geographical Conference (IGC) was held in Glasgow on 15th - 20th August to 2004. The theme was 'One earth - many worlds', with sub themes of: geography and sustainability; environmental innovation; global trends - local challenges; resource and hazard management; environmental sensitivity; communication and diversity; and implications of the knowledge economy. There were academic and social programmes, as well as numerous expeditions. IGC 2004 Limited was incorporated as a as a company by guarantee having no share capital on January 8th 2002. The company was established for charitable purposes only, and to promote and develop the sciences and disciplines associated with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and Royal Geographical Society.
