Volcanic dyke, Calgary Bay, Mull, Inner Hebrides

This example of a volcanic dyke cutting vertically through the horizontal bedding plane of the surrounding rocks was taken at Calgary Bay on the north-west coast of Mull by Patrick Bailey in July 1988. It is one of many dykes to be found on the west coast of Scotland that date from Tertiary volcanic activity c.60 million years ago.
