History/Scope | This collection comprises the slides, films, poetry, paintings, botanical notes, radio broadcast scripts, books and papers of Isobel Wylie Hutchison (1889-1982), a Scottish botanist, filmmaker, author, poet, and arctic explorer. Between 1927 and 1936, Hutchison travelled the Arctic by any means available including rowboats, snowshoe, and dog sledges. She had a long association with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society both as an Honorary Editor of the magazine and as a Fellow and Vice President. She was awarded the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's Fellowship Diploma in 1932, and the Mungo Park Medal in 1934, in recognition of her researches in the Arctic.
A paper entitled, Flowers and Farming in Greenland, with illustrations and lists of species, based on a talk she gave to the Society in Edinburgh in 1930 was published in volume 46, p214 of the Scottish Geographical Magazine.
