History/ScopeThis collection consists of a manuscript collection of letters, diary and journal written by Harry and Robert Goodsir relating to the Franklin expedition to find and navigate the North West Passage, which left Britain in May 1845, and Robert's involvement in the search for the expedition after its disappearance. Harry Goodsir, curator of the college of Surgeons of Edinburgh, joined the expedition as assistant surgeon. Following the disappearance of the expedition, his brother Robert became involved with the search. A transcription of the letters and disk, by A. B. Cruickshank of RSGS, are located with the collection (in blue folder). For more information see article, "Lost with Franklin" in the September 1990 issue of Geogscot.
