History/ScopeHannah Miller Hanlon, known as Anna, was born in Glasgow on the 10th of October 1916. She travelled to nearly 150 countries and territories between 1943 and 1997. She recorded these travels in 35mm slides, diaries and scrap books. She meticulously catalogued the slides in a series of notebooks which act as finding aids for the slides. The slide listings also contain additional information such as the type of camera used and the state of the lens. In 2005, aged 88, Anna Hanlon donated the collection to the RSGS so that the collection could be preserved for the future and made available to the public. She died peacefully in April 2007.
Notes:System of arrangement: the collection is sorted into series according to the original arrangement of the creator. Finding aids: the slides have been catalogued to item level by the creator in notebooks. The catalogue includes a code identifying each slide uniquely. The code consists of: a film number which runs from 1 (1952) to 1344 (1998), and a slide number. The code is written on each slide.
