New conceptual approaches: examining the links between ecosystem services and poverty alleviation

This project was funded by ESPA, led by Genevieve Patenaude , and ran from February 2011 to March 2012.

We started by reviewing a number of conceptual frameworks that are useful in this area and our review was recently published and is available open access from Global Environmental Change. Building on the strengths of other frameworks, we developed a new conceptual framework for research at this interface, published (also open access) in Ecosystem Services. As we develop this work into a more empirical orientation in Mozambique through the research project ACES, we will adapt and refine the framework, and hope to document this as we go – more information to follow.

A diagram of the conceptual framework is below. To see a video of me presenting this work at an ESPA event, please click here.
