The Society was founded on July 2 1771 as the Physico-Chirurgical Society, and in 1778 it became the Royal Physical Society of Edinburgh. Proceedings were published between 1854-1965 in volumes 1-29, and were devoted mainly to experimental biology and natural history. The charter and constitution of the Royal Physical Society of Edinburgh were published in 1842 in 12 pages.
