Known Corrections required
A changes in computer hardware and software have made it difficult
for me to add in corrections to the existing text, so as a stop-gap
measure, please consult the following list of known required
corrections.
- Chapter 8, page 3, line 13 up. A square root is missing from the
expression for beta, but the argument is not affected.
- Solutions to problems on chapter 6.
- For problem 2 the correctsolution is 694m not 69.4m
- Near bottom of sheet, R should be Rd
- Question 3 answer for temp gradient should be 2.9 not 5.9
K/(1000km)
- Question 4 bearing (see boxed answer) should be 348 not 282 degrees
- Solutions to problems on chapter 7, answer 2b should be non-zero
- Tutorial questions to chapter 8
- Question 3 should state "use the same value of K as in the
previous question"
Answer to previous question should read 765m
- Solutions to problems on chapter 10.
- In question 1 the wind components at the different heights have
been interchanged
- Question 2, partial derivative in penultimate line should be
w.r.t. y not greek mu
- Chapter 11. In the third paragraph it says "If the mass is constant
so its volume". It should say "If the mass is constant so its logarithm"

Q 4 invites you to compute -sigma/nu. However that is actually the
phase speed; to compute the group speed you need to compute
minus the partial derivative of sigma with respect to nu
