Siccar Point Field Excursion PreviewThe Old Red Sandstone (Devonian) StrataAt Siccar Point the basal layer of Old Red Sandstone strata consists of a breccia containing fragments of the underlying Silurian greywackes set in a sandy matrix. Notice that the top of the Silurian is reddened due to subaerial weathering. The breccia was deposited in a high energy environment, perhaps a wadi. Above the basal breccia are cross-bedded sandstones with breccia horizons.
