Cove Marine Beds

Locality 10: The lower Cove Marine Bed meets the harbour wall about 10m south of the bend (between the 5th and 6th steel re-inforcing strap). It is about 2m thick and cotains numerous crinoid ossicles and rarer brachiapod fragments.

This bed is important because it indicates that the sea had swept over the area - previous sediments having been deposited in a deltaic environment.
