Global Change Research

Global Change Symposium 2006

Human impacts on our planet are changing the atmosphere, climate, ice cover, global biogeochemistry, biodiversity, soils, and even ocean circulation, and have put Global Change at the centre of the international scientific agenda.

The Global Change Group aims to make a distinctive contribution the crucial scientific challenge of forecasting the direction and magnitude of future change in the Earth System. Development of a predictive capability relies on rigorous understanding of the building blocks of the system, represented by the Group's programmes for the Biosphere, Oceans, Atmosphere, Lithosphere and Cryosphere. The four symposium topics reflect the wide range of activities of the Group as reflected in the work of the first year PhD students who made presentations, and the members of academic staff who will offered a wider view of each of the four topic areas.
