The Edinburgh Earth Observatory

Aim of Series

The University of Edinburgh School of GeoSciences is pleased to host this seminar series under the auspices of the Edinburgh Earth Observatory. This prestigious series combines research seminars with talks of professional interest and is open to students and staff across the University and beyond, together with professionals in the field working in Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland. Supported by the Association for Geographic Information in Scotland (AGI Scotland) as a professional seminar series, it aims to be inclusive and broad-ranging.

Talks are given by top-ranking academics, researchers and professionals from across the country and beyond, as well as research students. The series aims to promote 'hot' research issues, practical topics, policy and organisational issues, and interest the broadest possible audience. Discussion and debate is encouraged wherever possible and talks are timed for the late afternoon to bring a social dimension.

These seminars also represent an important networking opportunity, with a growing audience comprising some of the key players in the Scottish geographical information industry.

The series is linked to the Hutton Club (a physical geography research seminar series also running on alternative Fridays in the Institute of Geography) to ensure that there will always be a single seminar (either EEO-AGI(S) or Hutton) virtually every Friday afternoon. We shall also be running several 'joint' seminars with other research groups, e.g. Human Geography which we hope will be of interest to both EEO-AGI(S) and wider audiences.

Suggestions for future speakers are most welcome.

This seminar qualifies for 1.5 points under the AGI Professional Development scheme.
