Postgraduate Diploma

The Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science is a nine month programme that runs from from September to June, sharing its taught component with the MSc in GIS. The course work is the same as that for the MSc, with an extended practical project taking up the final stage.

The Diploma course is supported by the SAAS for Scottish students and has been supported by the LEAs in England and Northern Ireland.

It is open to those with an honours degree or equivalent, generally those with a 2.1 or a 1st will be given priority. We value experience, and are particularly willing to support applications from more mature individuals wishing to consolidate skills.

Students completing the Diploma are required to undertake a practical project of limited extent between April and June, geared to the strengthening of skills acquired on the programme. A 6000-word report on this project is submitted by the end of June and on attainment of a mark of 40% or more, the Diploma will be awarded.
