School of GeoSciences Postgraduate Research Conference 2013Wednesday 27 February 2013
IntroductionThe School of GeoSciences Postgraduate Research Conference will take place on Wednesday 27 February 2013 at St Leonard's Building, Pollock Halls. All first year research students will deliver a presentation on their research to students and staff. All second year PhD students will prepare a poster and be on hand to explain their research. This event is a great way for students to gain valuable experience in presenting their research to experts and non-specialists and to benefit from feedback and collective discussion. In addition students and staff will also have the opportunity to learn more about the research taking place throughout the School. Information for 1st Year Research StudentsPresentation is compulsory. This presentation links to the PhD confirmation stage, details of which can be found in the PhD Progress Review document. You are required to present the scope and purpose of your research, relevant theoretical and methodological issues, technical and procedural aspects of data collection and analysis as well as any initial findings.
Further Guidance and Presentation Specification Deadline for submission of research title, abstract (maximum 100 words) and 5 key words is MONDAY 4 FEBRUARY.

Information for 2nd Year PhD StudentsPreparing and presenting your research on a poster is a compulsory part of our training programme for 2nd year PhD students. It is also a vital skill for researchers. The University logo can be found here: Link to University of Edinburgh logo. Training sessions have been organised to help you get more from the poster event. Deadline for research title, abstract (maximum 100 words) and 5 key words will be MONDAY 4 FEBRUARY. Details on how to submit your abstract can be found here Deadline for submission of printed poster: NO LATER THAN 5pm ON MONDAY 25 FEBRUARY to the Postgraduate Research Office, Room 337, Grant Institute. Posters will be on display for the duration of the Conference with the poster presentation session taking place from 12.30-2.00pm.
