Research interests
My main research interests are in hyperspectral and hyperspatial optical remote sensing techniques with particular focus on applicaton areas concerning vegetation, and inland and coastal waters. The main aim of this research is to improve scientific understanding of the principles of the spectral signatures of earth surface objects and to apply the resulting knowledge in the development of techniques for operational use. Previous and ongoing research has employed ground and water-based high spectral resolution spectroradiometry and novel analytical techniques, to define candidate narrow-band ratio and derivative indices.In 2004 I became Director of the NERC Field Spectroscopy Facility (formerly EPFS) which is now based in Edinburgh.
