More about me...
Apart from my more specific research interests I have a personal interest in the Islands of the North Atlantic as well, which I suppose is quite lucky really! Since working for a summer on the Isle of Skye in 2000, I've tried to visit and work on other islands off the Scottish coast, including Islay, Jura, Colonsay, Eriskay, Raasay, Gigha, the Isle of Harris and St Kilda, travelling by my favourite methods of transport; by foot, by bike and visiting some of the islands in the Sound of Harris by sea kayak. I returned to Skye in 2007, where I remained for two years pursuing an intensive Scottish Gaelic course at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, Scotland's Gaelic College, followed by employment in a Gaelic-speaking environment.
I'm interested in most things that happen outdoors and like to give things a try at least once - some of my favourites are sea kayaking, dog sledding, and cycle touring. Apart from an academic interest in historic human-environment interactions, I have a personal interest in environmental and sustainability issues. I also enjoy indoor pursuits, I like to dance - especially Scottish country dancing, love dogs, especially Siberian Huskies, I knit and crochet, read, bake bread and I am currently learning Norwegian. |
