I support the use of GIS technologies/techniques and analysis of digital spatial data in teaching and research across the School. I also run the unique and highly regarded EEO-AGI(S) Professional Seminar Series, held on selected Friday afternoons throughout the year, which attracts generous support from the Association for Geographic Information in Scotland and which has strong links between academia and the Scottish commercial and government GI sectors.
I am based in Drummond Street (Geography), Room 1.27.
I have a drop-in Office Hours Session there: Mondays 12-4pm.
NB During Semester 1 in particular occasional teaching marathons may see me occupied all day so do please email me if I am not in my office.
Outside of the above times you should generally find me in my office or the GIS Lab opposite (Rm 1.26). I may be helping elsewhere however so do please email me for help - I pride myself on always aiming for quick response times!
I am available most Thursday and Friday mornings during teaching semesters to provide help and advice at King's Buildings. To arrange an appointment: please email me at Owen.Macdonald@ed.ac.uk
GIS is short for Geographical Information Science but in industry or commercial settings often refers to the map-based computer systems permitting spatial analysis and recording of assets located in space - Geographical Information Systems
