These Black & White photographs were taken by my field partner Susanne Schmidt (GEUS - Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland) during the July-August 2005 field season in the Inner Godthabsfjord Region, southern West Greenland. The field work and subsequent follow-up research is being funded by the Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum, Greenland Home Rule, and aims to characterise and better understand the temporal evolution and tectonic environments of tonalitic orthogneisses, metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks (greenstones) in the Nuuk region, providing a context within which to assess the mineral potential of the Archaean province.

Antarctica.....

Ant99-1

On the sea-ice returning from a remote field location in east Antarctica. Field work was conducted in coastal islands and peninsulas on the Kemp Coast, approx. 150-200 kms west of Australian Antarctic Station "Mawson". Research focussed on the tectonothermal history of Archaean high-grade metamorphic rocks that were reworked during the Rayner orogenic event between 1000-900Ma.
