I am a NERC Independent Fellow based within the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh.
My fellowship research topic "Plant nutrition as Earth System Science" addresses the interactions between soil carbon dynamics, plant nutrient uptake, and plant growth.
I work primarily in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems where environmental change is happening quickly. Soils in these regions are carbon rich - the fate of this carbon will be important in determining the global climate impact of Arctic change. I use a combination of experimental work and models, often employing isotopes to quantify carbon and nitrogen dynamics in plants and soils.
