I am a lecturer in the School of GeoSciences and Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions at the University of Edinburgh. I use large-volume high-pressure/temperature techniques to study the behaviour of materials under extreme conditions. My research adopts a cross-disciplinary approach, using rigorous investigation of the physics and chemistry of minerals to inform on large scale geological problems. Principally I am interested in processes occurring deep within planetary interiors, although I have research interests outside of the geosciences such as using high-pressure techniques to synthesise novel materials with useful physical properties.

NERC quota Phd projects now available on-line (application deadline 1st Feb).......

Probing the water content of Earth's mantle: hydrogen mobility under extreme conditions

Thermal diffusion in planetary interiors: Isotope fractionation and the Soret effect

If you have any questions regarding these topics please send me an email, and we can discuss them in a lot more detail.
