About Edinburgh
For anyone needing a visual, here is a movie (format .mov; 16Mb) showing the city of Edinburgh from the top of Blackford Hill. The latter is one of Edinburgh's 7 extinct volcanos which is just 5 minutes walk from the University's science campus, Kings Buildings, on the south side of the city of Edinburgh. Movie Commentary. The movie above begins looking south to the Pentland Hills, turns through the sun in the west to zoom into 3 scenes: Edinburgh Castle and city (to the North), Arthurs Seat (another extinct volcano within the city), and The Royal Observatory + Kings Buildings (our science campus). Here is a movie (format .mov) showing the Grant Institute of Earth Sciences on the science campus. Here is a picture (format .jpg) of part of the seismic processing and interpretation lab. in the Grant Institute, with John Underhill at the controls. Here is a map showing how to get to the Kings Buildings science campus once you are in Edinburgh. Here is a map of how to find the Grant Institute once you have got to the campus. The picure to the right is Edinburgh Castle, taken from Calton Hill (yet another old volcano). Image provided by Stuck on Scotland. |
