Designing 'healthy' neighbourhoods for the analysis of health inequalities

Dr Niamh Shortt

Current geographical areas for health care services are rather arbitrary creations and do not reflect the landscape of health and deprivation on the ground.  This project will explore the area of Zone Design in health care and seek to answer the question as to which areal unit is ideal for health geography.  Developing on previous research by Dr Shortt you will explore a multidimensional approach to defining service areas based on the population's daily interaction in their areas.  Methodologies may include catchment analysis, multi-level modelling and cluster analysis.
