Creative Geographies
Dr Nina Morris & Dr Eric Laurier
Applications are invited from students interested in imaginative and creative processes as they relate to landscape and/or the ways in which cultural forms shape, and are shaped by, landscape and the natural environment. For example, the literature on installation art tends to focus on artworks located within formal gallery spaces or specific urban contexts (shop windows, civic squares, parks, etc), the theoretical and conceptual background of specific artworks, the technical procedures and equipment they employ, and the experience of the audience as ‘spectators’. Whilst this literature is valuable in many ways it does little to explore contractors’, designers’ and visitors’ experiences of the creative and practical processes of creating, managing, viewing and experiencing art in dynamic natural environments. With this in mind work on one of the following themes would be particularly welcome:
- The installation of art within natural landscapes.
- The delivery, reception and role of public or community art.
- Artistic collaboration (e.g. between artists and geographers).
- Outdoor theatre, performance and arts events.
