Geography Centenary Photography Competition

In 2008/09 we will celebrate 100 years of Geography at the University of Edinburgh. To mark the occasion we are holding two photography competitions and an exhibition.

The deadline for both competitions is Wednesday 14 January 2009.

Student photography competition

This competition is open to undergraduate students registered on any of the single or joint Honours Geography degree programmes. There will be a prize for the two best entries in each category and the top twenty images will be exhibited in Drummond Street during February-July 2009. The competition entries will be judged by the Centenary Committee.

The themes are:

1. Student Life. This could include anything from GeoSoc socials and sporting events to more
   general images which sum up your life as a geography student.
2. Doing Geography. This could include anything from fieldtrips, lectures, tutorials, and student-
   staff interaction to images taken during your dissertation research.

For each photograph submitted please:

• Provide your full name and matriculation number.
• Provide a title and (if possible) the year the photograph was taken.
• Indicate the relevant theme.

Entries must be in digital format with a resolution of at least 2 mega pixels for digital cameras and 300 dpi for scanned pictures.

Staff and Postgrad photography competition

This competition is open to staff involved in the Geography undergraduate and postgraduate degree programme(s) and postgraduate students within Geography. There will be a prize for the two best entries in each category and the top twenty images will be exhibited in Drummond Street during February-July 2009. The competition entries will be judged by the Centenary Committee.

The themes are:

1. Teaching. This could include anything from fieldtrips to more general images which sum up your life as a member of the Geography staff.
2. Research. This could include any aspect of your research including fieldwork, project meetings, the writing process, etc.

For each photograph submitted please:

• Provide your full name and matriculation number (if relevant).
• Provide a title and (if possible) the year the photograph was taken.
• Indicate the relevant theme.

Entries must be in digital format with a resolution of at least 2 mega pixels for digital cameras and 300 dpi for scanned pictures.
