The Place Project @ The Bowery
19th - 26th March 2009 Where: The Bowery, Roxburgh Place: http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=roxburgh+place+edinburgh&countryCode=GB The Place Project is a new initiative started by three recent arts graduates that aims to create a dialogue between a public venue, its visitors and the events that take place within it.
The first Place Project will take up residence for one week in March at The Bowery - a new alternative bar, music and arts venue in Edinburgh's Old Town, which takes its inspiration from one of New York City's more bohemian districts. Throughout the week, The Bowery will play host to a variety of installations, interventions, talks and performances that all reapond to the bar's pre-existing function as a social meeting place and music venue.
The week will include work by Edinburgh artists: Joanne Smithers and Ewan Sinclair, whose caravan-cinema will play a selection of films outside the venue from Monday to Thursday, and Tessa Lynch who will set up a participatory installation. The London-based Hut Project who will make their presence known by playfully documenting the comings-and-goings of visitors to the Place Project. Events in the Bowery's bandstand will include a Pecha Kucha Night when 12 individuals will showcase their talents in a 20x20 presentation (20 images shown for 20 seconds each), a set by experimental vocalist Wounded Knee, and a Masked Ball with electronic music especially composed and performed by multi-instrumentalist Freemore (previously of The Roughness).
