Research and Teaching in the micromet group

In the micromet group, we are interested in exploring the following questions:

  • What is the role of the land surface as a climate forcing factor?
  • What are the atmospheric processes and feedbacks that control land-atmosphere exchange?
  • How do we model regional exchange of greenhouse gases?
  • How effective are forests and agricultural soils at sequestering carbon?
  • What controls thermal comfort in humans and other animals?

News

  • The Friday Discussion Group is finally underway - details via the Micromet Wiki Pages.
  • Venture north! Rob C. has developed and provided a flux system for measuring CO2 exchange over Arctic sea ice as part of the Catlin Arctic Survey expedition. The first use of 'Eddie' as the Catlin team call it is described here.
  • Rob Clement will be spending 25% of his time on the new NEON experiment in the US.
  • Read Rob's comments on the new Li-Cor 7200 Open/Closed path IRGA that he helped to develop. The paper describing Rob's theory behind the instrument is on the publications page.
  • James has nearly recovered from organising the NERC-NCEO PhD and PDRA Conference. A great success by all accounts, so well done James. See the revealing evidence on the NERC-NCEO NING
  • James has successfully got the NAME inversion running and is about to start his experimental runs.
  • The three honours students have completed their thesis work at Griffin characterising the control and 'to be fertilised' plots.
  • The new aircraft engine has now been fitted and Tom and co are flying the 25 hours of running-in before flying off to Finland.
